Terms of sale and use
These terms govern the sale of goods through this site and your use of the site itself. They are written to be read, and where they touch on rights the law gives you they say so rather than trying to work around them.

Contact form →1 — Who you are dealing with
Goods on this site are sold by Hong Kong Bolin Rui International Trade Limited (香港柏林瑞國際貿易有限公司), a company incorporated in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, trading as Onestrand. “We”, “us” and “our” mean that company. Its registered office and contact details are in the panel beside this text and in the footer of every page.
2 — What we sell
Hand-woven objects for the home in plant fibre and in spun cord, and a small line of care and repair consumables. 64 of the 72 items listed are one-of-one: the object photographed is the object sold, its stock is one, and when it sells the listing goes. The remaining 8 are made in batches, carry a stock figure, and can be bought again.
We do not sell goods for children, goods for direct contact with food, structural or load-bearing goods, seating, or any product containing electrical components. The shade bodies in this shop are shade bodies only: no lamp holder, no cable, no bulb, no fitting.
3 — Descriptions, measurements and photographs
For every one-of-one piece we publish three measured points against the drawing it was made from, in millimetres, together with the visible flaws on that piece and where they are. See how we measure. Photographs are of the actual object and are not retouched to remove a flaw.
The published measurements and the published flaws form part of the description of the goods. Screen colour rendering is outside our control; the fibre descriptions on each page and the material pages are the reference.
4 — Prices and currency
All prices are in United States dollars (USD) and are shown as such throughout, including at checkout. Prices are for the goods only; carriage is added at checkout and shown before you pay.
Hong Kong levies no value-added, goods and services, or sales tax on this sale, so no tax of that kind is included in or added to the price here. Import duties and taxes charged by your own country are not included and are yours to pay — see delivery.
We run no discounts, no promotions, no vouchers, no trials and no subscriptions, and we never display a struck-through former price. On a one-of-one piece there is no former price to strike through, and inventing one would be a false trade description.
5 — How an order is formed
Adding a piece to the bag reserves nothing. Your submitted order is an offer to buy. A contract is formed when we send you an email confirming despatch. If a piece has sold in the interval, or if we cannot lawfully send it to your destination, we will tell you and refund anything taken.
Before payment you must confirm that import charges are yours, that you have read these terms, the privacy policy, the returns page and the quarantine page, and — if the bag holds a plant-fibre piece — that you understand what your border may require. None of those boxes is ticked for you, and the server checks them again independently of your browser.
6 — Where we can send things
Plant fibre is subject to the biosecurity law of the destination country. We do not send plant-fibre pieces to Australia or New Zealand, and we send them to several other countries only with a phytosanitary certificate attached. What we can and cannot send, and to where, is set out in full on quarantine, which forms part of these terms.
We cannot guarantee that any border agency will release a parcel. Where a plant-fibre piece is refused or held for treatment, the cost of that treatment is charged by that agency to you. Where the refusal is at a destination this site said we ship to, we refund the price of the piece in full.
7 — Payment and security of your card details
This site is served over HTTPS throughout. Card details are entered at the payment step and pass directly to a PCI DSS compliant payment provider. We do not see, handle, transmit or store a full card number at any point, and no card data is held on our systems.
Cards we accept
- Visa
- Mastercard
- American Express
- JCB
- UnionPay
- Discover
Payment is taken in USD. Your card issuer may apply its own conversion rate and a cross-border fee; that is between you and your issuer and is not something we receive or control.
8 — Your rights in the goods
Under the Sale of Goods Ordinance (Cap. 26), goods we sell must match the description we gave them, be of merchantable quality, and be fit for any particular purpose you told us about before buying.
The published deviations are part of the description. A piece that arrives matching its published measurements is as described. A piece with damage we did not publish is not.
Under the Control of Exemption Clauses Ordinance (Cap. 71), we cannot exclude these obligations when selling to a consumer, and nothing on this site tries to. These implied conditions have no fixed term and nothing here converts them into a warranty of a stated number of years.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Subject to that, and subject to the paragraph above, our liability arising from an order is limited to the amount you paid for it. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss.
Plant fibre changes with its environment: it cracks in dry air, deforms under load, darkens in daylight, grows mould in damp, can be bored by insects, and lifts burrs in use. Those are properties of the material, described in full on what the fibre does, and they are not defects.
9 — Returns and cancellation
Set out in full on returns, which forms part of these terms. In short: thirty days to change your mind as our own promise, plus whatever statutory cancellation right applies where you live, and you get whichever of the two is better for you.
10 — Using the site
The text, photographs, drawings and code on this site belong to us or are used with permission. You may read, print and share pages for your own use. You may not copy the photographs or the product text for a commercial purpose, scrape the catalogue in bulk, or present any of it as your own.
Do not attempt to interfere with the site, to circumvent the destination checks, or to submit orders by automated means. Orders that skip the checks are refused on the server.
This site has no customer accounts, no login and no membership. There is nothing to terminate, and nothing to close. If you have written to us and want your correspondence deleted, ask and we will delete it — see privacy.
11 — Changes to these terms
We may change these terms. The version that applies to your order is the version published when you placed it, and the date at the top of this page tells you when it last changed.
12 — If something goes wrong
Write to us first at support@starlivehk.com.
If we cannot resolve it and you are in Hong Kong, the Consumer Council offers a free complaint and conciliation service. The Consumer Council is not a regulator and cannot make binding decisions. For claims up to HK$75,000 you may also use the Small Claims Tribunal, which is designed to be used without a lawyer.
If you live outside Hong Kong, you can contact the consumer advice body in your own country, and the mandatory consumer-protection rules of your country of residence continue to apply to you.
13 — Governing law
These terms and any contract formed under them are governed by the laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The courts of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region have non-exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute.
If you are a consumer resident somewhere else, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory rules of the law of your country of residence, and you may be able to bring proceedings there.
